The Reading Room Code of Conduct
At The Reading Room, we are committed to providing a warm, inclusive, and respectful space where people can relax, connect, and enjoy books, beverages, and conversation. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all guests, members, and staff to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
By entering The Reading Room or participating in any of our events or programs, you agree to follow the standards below.
Respect for People

Treat all guests, staff, and authors with kindness and courtesy.

Respect different backgrounds, identities, beliefs, and reading preferences.

Refrain from disruptive behavior, including loud conversations, inappropriate language, or confrontational attitudes.
Respect for the Space

Handle books, furnishings, and décor with care.

Clean up after yourself and notify staff if spills or accidents occur.

Keep personal belongings contained to your seating area.
Beverage and Alcohol Guidelines

Alcoholic beverages are available only to guests 21+ with valid ID.

Drink responsibly. Staff may refuse service if a guest appears intoxicated or disruptive.

Outside food and beverages are not permitted.
Tech Etiquette

Please silence your phones and devices.

Take phone calls outside or in designated areas to preserve the quiet atmosphere.

Use headphones when listening to audio or watching content.
Children and Guests

Children are welcome under the supervision of a responsible adult.

All guests are expected to follow the same code of behavior regardless of age.

Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests.
Events and Reservations

For ticketed or reserved events, please arrive on time and be mindful of others’ experiences.

Members may be asked to RSVP in advance for limited-capacity programs.
Zero Tolerance Policy
The Reading Room does not tolerate:

Harassment, discrimination, or hate speech

Theft, vandalism, or property damage

Physical aggression or threats of any kind

Substance abuse or illegal activity
Violations of this policy may result in immediate removal from the premises, suspension or revocation of membership, and, if necessary, law enforcement involvement.
